watch out for abundant summer cheer

Today HSPH had the much-anticipated Picnic in the Courtyard for all HSPH community members, "Free lunch and summer cheer will abound"! wahoo!! I came back from the library as they were setting up hot containers of food and revving up the summer cheer under the flag-lined tent left over from graduation last week. Two of my coworkers and I went down about halfway through this two hour affair and it was pretty bleak. The fourth of suffocatingly hot summer days and our anticipated summer cheer revelling was deflated with the wincing smile of a woman who told us the food was gone. She suggested seeing if any ice cream bars were left. nope. a few seltzer waters and an abundance of condiments were our options. Apparently they invited the entire HSPH community (faculty, staff, students) but only planned for about 200 people. Even a coworker who went down just a little after it started only got a bit of food. so much for any kind of abundance besides hot hot sticky air and some disappointment.

Congratulations to E for being the Bean Queen and to eebs for being the Bean Tease last night. mumbety jumbohnanza... ;)

And we look forward to E's photos of Proboscis Monkeys from Borneo.

some friday morning thoughts

I haven't gotten this soaked since walking to class in my college days.

There should be at least a clearance of 7 feet for all tree branches overhanging the sidewalks. Bushes and hedges should not be allowed to grow more than 3 inches over the edge of the sidewalk.

What am I going to do with this loooong Friday?

Rock Band (playstation) and MarioKart (wii) are pretty fun ways to waste a lot of time.

I was hoping to buy a somosa from the T stop for dinner last night, but they were all out of their hot goods, so I bought an outrageously overpriced twix from the stand next door. Twix has been my favorite candy bar lately. Although I have yet to try to Violet Crush or the poprocks one...

I wonder if my pants will ever dry today.

anybody want to give me a car???
