or at least some good grippers on the booties.
Let me tell you about my last Sunday night:
eebs and I were enjoying a quiet Sunday afternoon to ourselves. We have this paper chain she made at Christmastime and each link has something written inside that we are supposed to do: write a poem, make music, hug someone, etc. Every now and then we take a link off and do whatever it says. So this Sunday evening, we took a link off and it said "Play". I thought what could be more fun than pretend we are pterodactyls. What do pterodactyls do besides squeak and fly? So I took my hand at flying. I crouched and hopped off the futon with a squawk. Well, the thing I hadn't taken into consideration in amidst all my great ideas was the booties I was wearing. They are cute little crocheted booties given to me by a dear friend. They slip like butter on a hot frying pan even if I'm just walking across our wood floor. So, I never felt my feet land--I heard something like "oh no" come from eebs as my butter booties did me no good and the ceiling was coming into view. My head hit hard on the coffee table and all I could think of was what a dumb way to die as I lay on the ground. It hurt A LOT. I wanted to sit up and be ok. eebs helped me up sit up and as I leaned on her knee I felt super sick and knew I was going to pass out. I realized I actually did as somewhere I heard eebs trying to talk to me and get me out of the crazy dreams I'd slipped into, and I yanked myself back into the reality of nausea and hurt. After awhile I was able to get up on the futon and have a sip of water, and after another while I was able to use the bathroom. eebs was furiously looking for info on what should be done about head injuries and we concluded I'd better get it checked out. I called my doctor's office and got permission to go to the ER, and a friend drove us there. The rest of the story isn't so interesting... total about 2 hrs or so at the hospital... more nausea but no passing out... motrin and anti-nausea med... ct scan... given the big ok... big tender lump on the head.
so if you are going to be a pterodactyl near a wood floor, please wear some good gripper booties.
