How's the sunlight going to burn happy holes in your <3??? Through service!! ;)
Incoming Pres Barack Obama has made a call for service,
Come!! and do some service on Saturday (1.17) with me and Erin! We are going to participate in this one that starts and ends at a church in Brookline because it's open to anyone and it's easy to participate and get to. Check out details here. It starts at 9am then goes til about mid-afternoon. Perhaps we could wind it up by having our own ice cream social at our place with games and relaxing (instead of theirs)?
Anyway, come for all or part of it! It would be fun to do it together! "We are one people; We are one nation; and together, we will begin the next great chapter in America's story." (Barack O.) Let's burn some beautifully cheesy happy holes in our hearts by serving our community! :)
Let me know asap if you want to do this and I will sign us up as a group.
happy January--
Leslie
ps-we might also donate blood in the LMA on Monday even though I've never done it before and it kind of scares me to death a little bit. If you want to donate blood or platelets, or just want more info, go here.

thanks for the good times, even if no one else showed up...
follow-up for the masses:
we didn't donate blood, and we almost gave up on serving because no one rallied behind us. We decided that we wouldn't give in to everyone else's apathy and we showed up (a little late) to the designated church in brookline.
It turned out to be more of a region-wide annual service activity held by that denomination, and this was the first time they had advertised it on the mlk day website. They were pretty surprised to see us there randomly trying to join.
They assigned us to help with the winter clothing efforts. We got to ride with two of the most delightful women I've met (sisters) in their big cushy cadillac up to Charlestown. They left us there, where we joined a group of people who were sorting through an attic full of donated clothing in another church. We just pulled out any winter clothes we found and stuffed them into big plastic bags. After filling up a fat mountain of bags, we hopped a ride with someone else and rode back to the church in brookline. There, people were sorting the clothes (men's, women's, children's, etc). We had some lunch and then took off.
I don't know that we really helped the world much, but it was nice to get out into the community and see people working together and be exposed to other people's lives. We had fun, and I daresay we'd do it again!
