A couple weeks ago, my roommate brought Spirited Away home from the library because I had never seen it. I have seen Totoro and Princess Mononoke and one other that I don't remember the name of, but that's it as far as anime goes. She insisted that we watch Spirited Away and Howl's Moving Castle because she said they are so great. She was right! Spirited Away tickled me with delight, but the dvd had deep scratches gouged in it so I think I only so about 40 minutes of the movie altogether and missed vital chunks of the plot. So frustrating!!! I definitely need to watch it again so I can savor all the details in their glory.
Last night we watched Howl's Moving Castle- fantastic! That's my kind of chick flick. Forget all that Princess Diaries and Lakehouse stuff- these wizards and luck dragons are way more dashing than any prince charming.
My roommate also commented that one things she likes about the Japanese films is that there aren't distinct lines between good and evil. Characters often change from one side to the other. I hadn't actually thought about that, but I like that too.
